Grade 1 - English
This is the foundational stage for academic learning. Language in itself, being the foundation for all other learnings, must be taught with introduction to several foundational concepts and crucial skills that will pave the way for reading and writing
In the Grade 1 English curriculum, we will cover topics that will help build both written and oral skills. Therefore, topics such as phonics, reading, comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling are crucial at this stage.
End of term students should be able to recognize, read and write the alphabet, phonics, and small words.

Objectives for Reading in Grade 1
Identify consonants and vowels
Read small words.
Frame simple and meaningful sentences.
Identify the names and sounds of all the consonants and vowels.
Objectives for Writing in Grade 1
Formation of all alphabets correctly
Write 3- 4-letter words
Write simple sentences
Objectives for Learning Grammar in Grade 1
Correct use of capital letters and punctuation.
Understand and identify the parts of speech and types of sentences.
